Winners of LInCS Call for funding announced!
The NDLR team have been fervently coordinating the review of all the LInCS proposals and we are delighted to announce the 13 successful applications for the 2012 NDLR LInCS Call for funding!
The standard of projects this year was incredibly high. It featured more innovative and ambitious ideas than usual – a sign that resource development in Ireland for Higher Education teaching and learning has moved beyond the usual scale of development. We will endeavour to support the unsuccessful applicants through the institutional coordinators and of course the core team.
19 Institutions are represented across the 13 successful projects showing the breadth of interest across the country. 123, 000 euro in total will be allocated to support the development of these digital resources all of which will be showcased at the NDLR Fest 2012. Congratulations to all involved we look forward to working with you over the next year!

Institute of Technology Carlow announce 7 new NDLR Learning Innovation Projects |
On Thursday 16th June, the Teaching and Learning Centre at IT Carlow hosted its Teaching & Learning Showcase which, along with a keynote by Muiris O'Connor of the Higher Education Authority, included presentations from academics participating in NDLR local and national digital resource development projects. Congratulations to all involved. 7 new local projects were announced at the showcase.

18th International Conference of Adults Learning Mathematics (ALM) |

• all levels of education
• improving public awareness and communication
• supporting active citizenship.
In addition ALM's collaboration with the National Adult Literacy Agency gives participants and contributors a special opportunity to explore the important and enduring relationship between literacy and numeracy and what it means for adult mathematics education.
Tuesday 28th June will have a particular focus on Adults Mathematics Education for practitioners.

Keynote Speaker
Douglas Thomas has been a professor at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California since 1993. He is the author or editor of five books, including his most recent work A New Culture of Learning: Cultivating the Imagination for a World of Constant Change (with co-author John Seely Brown). During his time at USC, he has focused his research on radical cultures of learning at the intersections of technology and culture, beginning with the underground worlds of computer hackers and virus writers. He has studied the open source programming community as well as a decade long ethnographic research project of the culture learning in and around computer games.
His research has been supported by the MacArthur Foundation, the Lounsbery Foundation, and the Annenberg Center at USC, and focuses on the transformation of learning, knowledge, education and global civic engagement in the digital age. He is founding editor of Games & Culture: A Journal of Interactive Media, a quarterly international journal that aims to publish innovative theoretical and empirical research about games and culture within the context of interactive media. His books include: Hacking Culture, a study of the cultural, social, and political dimensions of computer hacking, His current projects include Power, Play, and Performance: Studying Virtual Worlds, an examination of player culture and community in massively multiplayer online games and Play and Politics: Games, Civic Engagement, and Social Activism.

Dublin eLearning Summer School: "Challenging the 21st Century Learner",

The ninth Dublin eLearning Summer School is taking place this week (20–24 June 2011) at DIT Aungier Street.

Convened under the auspices of the Dublin Region Higher Education Alliance (DRH EA), this year's programme addresses the theme of "Challenging the Twenty-First Century Learner", with sessions covering everything from "Teaching in an Online Environment" (Michael Hallissy, Hibernia College) and eLearning and the Hunt Report (Richard Thorn, Director of Flexible Learning, IoTI) to Facebook in Education, iPads and a link-up with the European Distance and E-Learning Network Conference. The week-long series of talks and workshops gives academic staff from across Dublin's third-level colleges an opportunity to discuss issues relating to eLearning in their work and to exchange ideas with like-minded individuals.

DIT's Learning Teaching & Technology Centre (LTTC) coordinates 2 successful Masters programmes: MSc Applied eLearning and the MA in Higher Education |
From September 2011 DIT will offer certain modules from the programmes as CPD modules.
The following modules which carry 10 ECTS credits can be taken as independent stand alone modules:
Writing and Disseminating Research is a module designed to support participants in their academic writing and publishing pursuits. Participants will learn how to successfully present their work at conferences and write an article for publishing in a peer reviewed journal.
Higher Education Policy is a vast subject and this module will provide an overview of policy issues within this sector and is designed to be responsive to policy issues and current debates in any given year.
The Research Methods module will advance participants' understanding of the philosophical bases of quantitative and qualitative research approaches and promote an understanding of how research contributes to knowledge. It will equip participants to design a feasible research project through the writing of a substantive research proposal.

EATAW 2011 The Role of the Student Experience in Shaping Academic Writing Development in Higher Education

EATAW is a scholarly forum which seeks to bring together those involved or interested in the teaching, tutoring, research, administration and development of academic writing in higher education in Europe.
The next seminar series aims to stimulate debate between researchers, those engaged in policy and practice in higher education and representatives of civil society. The fourth Irish European Study Group with Industry
The 82nd European Study Group with Industry will be hosted by MACSI at the University of Limerick, Ireland, 26th June - 1st July 2011.
